Comment: As a
fireman, fire was an enemy to knock down and once it was, this did not mean
that the fire was out and we could all go home. Hot spots become a serious
fight and these were numerous at times, once the wetness of the wood dried,
fire would erupt and spread quickly. In a similar thought, the effects of sin
in our soul was knocked down. Romans 8:1 – There is therefore NOW no condemnation
to those who are in Christ/Messiah Jesus. If there is sin (and there is) after
having personal faith in the Gospel we have not lost salvation, but we have
lost sight of the suffering Christ/Messiah and our Sonship through the Spirit
is crippled because we fail to quench these sins with applying faith. These hot
spots of sin will erupt and if we do not deal with these immediately we will
lose fellowship with our Father. Many children of God walk in these faithless
and overwhelming hot spots because they have become debtors to the flesh.
Devotional: Romans 8:12-17 – Therefore, I hope you like
the word ‘therefore’ the apostle Paul likes it as he has used it thirty-four
times in his epistle to the Romans and twice here in chapter 8. Here in verse
12, in referencing the first eleven verses he reminds us that since we have
been freed from the bondage of indwelling sin that our redeemed focus ought to
be “we are absolute children of God through the Spirit of God”.
We are no longer debtors to
live as the world does “in the flesh” to do so is to die “spiritually”, we
cannot live a godly life in the Spirit if we flirt with the world, that is; if
we do not put to death these “hot spots of sin” we will die spiritually. So, I see
that there is a responsible requirement in every believer’s life to be “led by
the Holy Spirit” this is a personal willingness to put to death the sin which is
the deeds of the body.
For as many of us who are led
by the Spirit, these are the Sons of God, if you have fear of God, then you are
not being led by the Spirit as you ought. Living in the Spirit of God is not an
option for the child of God, you must walk in the Spirit of God or the end
result, is a return to bondage and fear. I would much rather look to God my
Father and cry out with “Abba Father” as the Spirit bears witness in me that I am
His child.
