A Daily Devotional – Personal Faith – Personal Meditation (26)

A Daily Devotional – Personal Faith – Personal Meditation

Comment: I believe that I have made mention of this before; in the original writings of the Word of God there were no chapters or verses as we have it today. So, in some cases, by adding chapters and verses it is possible to lose the thrust of what is being explained or taught by the Holy Spirit through the writer. As we exit out of chapter 9 and begin chapter 10 it is plain to see this potential loss as the discourse continues. The Pharisees ask Jesus; “Are we blind also?” John 9:40. The question has a longer answer than that assumed with the ending of John 9:41. The answer that Jesus gives continues to John 10:18 and raises more questions; verses 10:19-24 requiring more explanation from Jesus through John 10:25-30. The questions and answers cease when collectively the Pharisees reject their Messiah once again and seek to stone Him;

Devotional: In the discourse of chapter 9 and 10 there are some promises and challenges presented by Jesus that comfort us church-age saints and we should not overlook them. The Christ in the context of John 10 is for Israel to accept Him. He is the TRUE Shepherd of His sheep. Yet, do not be mistaken, the Christ is also for His Church and He is the Shepherd of that flock too. From the discourse in chapter 10 the Holy Spirit provides comfort to both the Jew and the Gentile. God comforts His children even while the Good Shepherd is rejected by the religion of His day once again, see John 10:31-39.

From John chapter 10 we see a parallel with Isaiah 40:1-31 that all people of God are comforted by God. John 10:1-6 purely identifies Jesus as the TRUE LORD and SHEPHERD. He is not the watchman (God the Father is watchman over all nations). Jesus the true Shepherd who enters the watchman’s gate and properly collects His sheep, the watchman opens the door, the watchman does not give His sheep to Him, the sheep hear His voice and thus they know Him, they will follow only the One whose voice they know.

They will not follow the stranger. If you are not a believer in Christ you are like the Pharisees, you will not understand nor will you follow, unless your intent is to stone Him; John 10:6 and 10:31-39. This is all I have time for this morning, there is a lot of scripture to read today, apply yourself to the wisdom of God’s Word and remove your foot from evil. Follow the Shepherd and allow Him to increase your personal faith in God, in this you will find the peace of God that surpasses all human understanding.
