A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:105-112 – Personal Meditation
Comment: When we decide to meditate on the
Word of God, God will reveal things about the world of darkness we live in.
There are no examples to really pull from since there is a common thread of
darkness in all of us. Let me explain; I have a sinful nature and so do you,
our natural conduct in the world around us is sinful. We consider ourselves honest,
but we fail. Each of us fail in different ways. Each of us knows our own sinful
behavior, Proverbs 14:10 explains clearly that the heart knows its own bitterness,
and a stranger does not share its joy. Understanding the darkness in the world
around us is impossible without the light of God’s Word; as in “even in
laughter the heart of man can be sorrowful, look a bit further down in Proverbs
14 to verse 13. If we do not meditate on the Word of God, in the end of
laughter is grief. The ways of man apart from the Word of God is “darkness”.
Devotional: I
have not always enjoyed the Psalms, only in the last twenty-five years have I come
to understand (in part) some of messages the writers of these one hundred fifty
have for us. The psalms have a serious message for the readers. (There are
other psalms throughout the books of the Bible) for example see 2 Samuel 22;
even the first seven verses of 2 Samuel 23. Here, David identifies himself
before going home to the LORD as the ‘sweet psalmist of Israel’.
Psalms provide every one the opportunity to know God
in a personal way. Psalms provide us to know our limits in the world around us.
Vivid accounts of victory over sin and defeat in the practice of sin; Psalm 51
and 38 record defeat and restoration in the life of David, king of Israel.
Another psalm of David provides guidance for each of us to preserve in trails,
Psalm 40. Psalms is training in living life before God, it is required meditation
for the child of God who seeks to apply the precepts, statutes and Word of God
to his or her life.
The Word of God is a Lamp to the feet of all who seek
to walk with God by faith. Faith in God is pathway in life that requires the
light of God. If your pathway is not by faith in God, you will not be able to
confirm God’s righteous judgments and affliction will grip your way; affliction
is darkness. In darkness, we call out to God, only He can revive and not we
ourselves. All we can offer Him is a humble heart of confession.
We must remain teachable in all areas of living, we
cannot do this if God’s Word is not the guiding Light He intends it to be. The snares
of the wicked are all around us, do not be naïve and do not be led astray from
God’s precepts. As saints of God (born again believers, in Christ) we have an
inheritance. When we meditate on this Truth our heart rejoices and there is a
strong willingness from our soul to keep His Word to the very end.
Sadly, many of us have wasted our life in the darkness
of the world, yet God is faithful; 1 Corinthians 1:9 and 10:13.
