A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:81-88 – Personal Meditation (11)

A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:81-88 – Personal Meditation

Comment: Prayer and meditation do go together, yet not like a pair of gloves in the sense of putting both on. Mediation also goes well with the reading of scripture. Notice what the apostle James writes in his epistle; James 1:21-25 Therefore, lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. So, we see that meditation and application of God’s Word also go hand in hand.

Devotional: There is little discussion in churches regarding our personal soul, I do not have an answer for why that is, but notice what the psalmist says here in verse 81 of Psalm 119. “My soul faints for Your salvation, but I hope in Your Word.” The thought of this ought to stir up a question or two; like! “Do I give any thought to my soul during the day at all?” Or. “Just what is the connection of my soul and my relationship with God?”

Salvation, hope, searching and comfort are vital parts of meditation in the Living Word of God, this we understand. However; deliverance, hope, searching and comfort will not provide assurance if we fail to allow our soul to be satisfied in this Truth. The eyes of our physical body search the scripture for truth and assurance, but it is not real to any of us until our soul is resting and fully anchored in the Word of God – (Proverbs 13:12-13),

The days of life are not many when placed on the backdrop of eternity, our physical being will not inherit the kingdom of God; 1 Corinthians 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. So, while we physically fade like an object in a smoke-filled room, and while we are persecuted in life, while the pits are being dug, which are not in accordance with God. Cling to His commandments, statutes and judgments with your soul.

Lastly! Allow God to revive your soul through His love and mercy and while we study the statutes of our LORD our soul will be encouraged and strengthened in and for the eternal weight of glory (2 Corinthians 4:17) of which we are awaiting.
