A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:49-56 – Personal Meditation
Comment: You have no doubt thought as I have,
“how does one get angry and not sin?” Often when reading scripture I am
thankful that God has prepared all things before the beginning of time, that
is; before the foundations of life. It is hard for us to imagine this in that
in every aspect of created life God has the perfect answer, that answer is “Truth”.
We might say that if Adam had not sinned, we might understand more, as 1
Corinthians 2:6-15 reveals. Adam gave up his spiritual maturity for a natural
mind. The
natural mind does not receive the
things of the Spirit of God, for the are foolishness to him (or) her. Nor can
they know these things because these
things are discerned by the Spirit. If one does not have the Spirit of God, the
revelation from God to the natural mind will not be comprehended.
Devotional: God
does not forget His Word to us, although there are times in our life when we
may strongly feel that He has. But a more inward personal look at our self
would reveal that it is we ourselves who forget His Word. Our hope is in the
LORD, it is Him and Him alone that provides us comfort and strength for living
in the world around us. Relying on Him will deliver us from personal anger. Personal anger is sin, indignation provided through God's Word is not.
If we are not daily involved with God’s Word we will
fail. Why? Because we are surrounded by temptations within and without, see 1
Corinthians 10:13, even Hebrews 12:1-2, the LORD Jesus was tempted to sin, yet
for the joy of obedience, even obedience to the death resulting from the cross;
He did not sin, He relied of His Father, Truth from the foundation of the world to deliver Him.
Was He separated from being angry? Of course, not! But
if He was angered it was not the result of personal sin, but of humble indignation.
Certainly, as the psalmist reveals in our section this morning; the proud,
unbelieving heart, the arrogant heart does not hold back. It is aggressive and
unrelenting; even the humblest of heart (apart from Jesus the Lamb of God)
would be angered, maybe even rebellious.
So how does the man or woman of God deal with anger
without sinning. First; because the wicked have turned away from the law of
God, this ‘law’ is not the ten commandments, but the law of Creation. The wicked
have replaced the Eternal Wisdom and Knowledge of God for the wisdom and
knowledge of the temporal world around them.
The child of God, even while tempted to retaliate in
the flesh will overcome the flesh with the “joy” that is set before them in
that wherever he or she is the theme of their song is the statutes of the LORD,
see Psalm 19:8. In the night when thinking about the passing day, instead of
lingering over the events in anger, we remember His Name is Wonderful, Counselor and Mighty God. Personally this Truth is our pilgrimage, because in ur walk with the LORD we
keep His precepts.
