A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:57-64 – Personal Meditation (8)

A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:57-64 – Personal Meditation

Comment: I am sure that we have all heard this comment, either in real life or in a movie or two. “Why would anyone want to harm that person, he was the friendliest person, everyone liked him, I do not think he had an enemy in the world!” We should think this through a bit deeper, as the apostle Peter reminds us that the devil walks about as a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. For those of us who are saved we have protection through Christ, but for the unbelieving that circle of protection is not there. For the child of God, there is responsibility; that is, more than simply setting in that circle and doing nothing. We must, “Humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt us in due time. HOW? By casting all your care upon Him (Christ) for He cares for us,1 Peter 5:6-7.

Devotional: God’s children must realize that they live on enemy soil, the earth and the people in it are the stolen property of Satan. The children of God are the redeemed, they are purchased out of the devil’s world by the Blood of Jesus Christ who obediently, to the will of His Father gave His life for the ransom of many, see Matthew 20:28.

Genesis 2 is the record of human life in the garden of God before it was stolen, Genesis 3 is the record of Satan the thief taking what God gave to man for his own domain. Even to this day, as stated earlier this is the devil’s world. Look around, does this world look like Genesis chapter Two or Genesis chapter Three. One does not need a PHD to see the difference, to the devil the world is flat and dead, but by the Word of God, He created it in a circle with life, Proverbs 8:27.

The Psalm writer of Psalm 119 in verses 57-64 is fully aware of the evil intentions of those who are in the devil’s world, those who seek his life and so he begins this section by casting his cares for these matters on the LORD who has the power and will to help. If God is your portion, you will as the psalmist does, entreat Him for grace daily, for God cares for you, He alone is our protection.

Our ways by default are like those of the world around us, thus we must continually think about what we are doing. When our ways are pointed “earthly” we must turn our “spiritual feet” in the direction of the commandments of God, otherwise the cords of the wicked will entrap and the devil will devour.
At midnight when you awake, do not sit in the seat of the scorner, rise up and give thanks to the LORD, His righteous judgments are far better than sitting in the judgment seat of scorn, in other words do not allow yourself to recount the day before when wicked people sought to bind you with the ropes of discontent.

When we seek companionship with our brothers and sisters in Christ; that is those who keep the precepts of God as we do, we will see that God’s mercy is in the world, in spite of what the devil seeks to do. God is not willing that any should perish, He has made a way of escape! Let God teach you His Statutes. The gospel of God is a Statute of God, it is unchangeable.
