A Daily Devotional – Personal Faith – Personal Meditation (7)

A Daily Devotional – Personal Faith – Personal Meditation

Comment: Good morning! In the epistle to the Philippians the apostle Paul records these words in chapter three. “I press toward the goal of the prize of the ‘upward call of God’ in Christ Jesus”. (Philippians 3:14) The context that surrounds this verse is a recap of two citizenships; that is, the before and after recap of religious (temporal) life and godly (eternal) life. Let me explain! The apostle is not discussing human life accomplishments; such as, family, work and community status. He is describing our religious motivations before we understood the gospel and began worshipping God in the Spirit. Our pattern of life in the Spirit is no longer the pattern of life in those earthly religious accomplishments recorded in the chapter. Now, by personal faith our citizenship is in heaven and we eagerly wait for Him who will transform our lowly body, that it may be ‘conformed’ to His glorious body, as only God can do.

Devotional: Meditate today on Philippians Three along with the gospel of John chapter 4:46-54.
The nobleman (a royal official) is a successful person in Cana, he may have been at the wedding as John 4:45 reveals. During the time of the wedding all was well with the nobleman’s family, but when Jesus returns to Cana there is a serious cloud of fear and uncertainty in life of this man. This is not uncommon for any of us, is it? One day, we celebrate, then one day, not long after some troubling things occurs in our family.

It is not strange that we KNOW that our religion fails at the fear of losing a loved one. The nobleman’s grief it is the pending loss of his son and in desperate need he calls out to Jesus, the Christ of God. He no doubt had a Rabbi pastor and teacher, maybe he even called out to him for help. However, the nobleman was not satisfied with the religious results. He had seen Jesus before and was aware of His power over life and nature, as he had witnessed Jesus at the wedding.

Personal faith does not forget what it sees or hears, have you not said a time or two, “I have seen this before”! or “I have heard this before”! Thus, it must be true and trustworthy. Personal faith is always exercised by the call of God to believe the Truth. Events in life to trust in Jesus, will always direct us to the upward call of personal faith, like that of the nobleman. Leaving his religion behind, he trusted the Words of Jesus. His son was healed and lived, the nobleman’s personal faith in Jesus the Christ of God surged through his whole household and all were saved. Praise The LORD. Amen!
