A Daily Devotional – Psalms – Praise and Worship (1)
Comment: The intro to Psalms in my Reference
Bible makes this general statement, “The Book of Psalms is the largest and
perhaps most widely used book in the Bible. It explores the full range of human
experience in a very personal and practical way. Its 150 songs run from the
Creation through the patriarchal, theocratic, monarchial, exilic, and
postexilic periods. The tremendous breadth of the subject matter in the Psalms
includes diverse topics, such as jubilation, war, peace, worship, judgment, messianic
prophecy, praise and lament…” I end the quote here as this is the subject matter
I seek to pursue over the next few weeks.
Devotional: There are ways that seems
right to mankind, but in the end these ways lead to death. Solomon in his
writings of Proverbs puts it this way in Proverbs 14:12 – There is a way that
seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Truth or the consequence
of truth is dramatic, while the fool says in his heart, “There is no God”
excerpts from Psalm 14:1-2, God still (continues) to see from heaven the works
of the children of men.
While
in the flesh as “children of men” (see Genesis 5:1-3, made in the likeness of
God; YES, but after the fall, the children of men are made in the likeness of
Adam; after his image) thus all are FALLEN from the likeness of God; that is,
spiritually dead but alive in the flesh. God’s provision for fallen man (his
sin) is the sacrifice of His only begotten Son. God loves His created world so
He provided the WAY for mankind to return to Him, John 3:16, (see the context
of 1 Peter 1:13-21).
Psalm
1:1-3 – Take the time today to meditate on your personal relationship with God
through your Savior Jesus Christ. Walk in His counsel, do not stand with
sinners and refrain from being critical and do not scorn others. Delight
yourself in the LORD, Romans 13:14 and meditate on the goodness of God’s grace
in your ‘restored life’ in Christ.
Psalm
1:4-6 – Do not waste your life in Christ by being ungodly, being ‘chaff’ and
driven from fellowship with Christ and the believers around you. For the LORD
knows the WAY of the righteous. Jesus is still calling for men and women to be
faithful as Mark 1:17 says, “Follow Me, and I will make
you become fishers of men.”
